Geordie Waddie, Adam Wilson, and Jeannie Waddie. Mr. Waddie, left, was a character and a half and lived in Galt in the early 1900s. A Scot, he worked in the knitting room at the C. Turnbull Company mill on Water St. (where Mill Race Park now sits) winding yarn onto bobbins to be knit into underwear.

This trio (the Waddies lived in part of the Wilson home on Water Street) travelled by street car to Preston to have this photo taked by the celebrated photographer James Esson. Waddie was known for his broad Scottish accent and his habit of over-indulging on Saturdays and paydays. When he would fail to return home, Jeannie would tour the pubs to find him. Apparently, she once had to lead him home by rope. Nevertheless, he was a cheerful fellow friend to every galtonian, and would occasionally hand out pennies to children so they could buy sweets. Jeannie was famous in town for the haggis she made.
