Mrs. Henrietta Goettling - By Record Correspondent - New Dundee - Mrs. Henrietta Goettling, 81, of New Dundee, died Tuesday at Likeholme Lodge, St. Jacobs, after a lengthy illness. Born June 9, 1880, in New Dundee, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Einwechter. She was a member of St. James' Lutheran Church, New Dundee. Her husband, William Goettling died Feb. 25, 1958. Surviving are three sons, Lloyd and Henry of New Dundee and Nelson of Lindbergh, Alta., two daughters, Mrs. Max (Edna) Bogusat of Virgil and Mrs. Alvin (Lydia) Duench of Waterloo; one sister, Mrs. Emma Becker of Kitchener, 10 grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister and three brothers. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, until Saturday at 10 am when removal will be made to St. James' Church, New Dundee. Friends may pay their respects at the church until the service at 3 pm. Seminarian Walter E. Ludwig will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, New Dundee.

Notes:

Earl Einwechter, director of New Dundee's Little German Band, was one of that Village's most colourful citizens of the past century. A lifelong resident of the area, he and his twin brother Emmerson were born on a farm, the first of two sets of twins in a family of seven sons. Einwechter was one of the early cream haulers for the New Dundee Creamery beginning in 1922, often rising at 3: 30 a.m. in the winter to start his long route to Galt with a team of horses and sleigh. He also owned and operated the New Dundee Hotel from 1954 to 1957.

He was the leader of the Little German Band from 1948 to the late 1980s. At the band's first performance in 1947, he pulled a live piglet from his horn, much to the amusement of the audience. He directed the band "with dignity" in black top hat, tails, flippers, and a dish mop for his baton. The band played for family reunions, fall fairs, nursing homes, conventions, the Preston Old Boys' Reunion, at Oktoberfest, and in many Santa Claus parades in Kitchener and New Hamburg. When he was no longer able to walk a great distance in parades, he directed the band from a float or truck. He was awarded a life membership in the Musicians Union, after the band's twenty-five year affiliation with Local 226 in Kitchener.

On his 93rd birthday, five members of the original band of eight came to his home to play several selections, while he directed. Earl Einwechter passed away January 7, 1998 in his 96th year. His wife of seventy years, the former Ella Scheel, died a few months later. Bringing smiles to the faces of young and old for forty-six years was Earl's gift to Waterloo County.

EINWECHTER, Harvey Charles - Peacefully, on Wednesday, July 2, 1997, at Freeport Health Care Centre of Grand River Hospital, Harvey Einwechter, of New Dundee.

He was born in Wilmot township, 93 years ago, a son of the late George and Hannah (Kavelman) Einwechter. In 1926, Harvey began his trucking business now known as Einwechter Limited. Harvey was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, New Dundee where he had been on the church council. He. was a charter member of the Waterloo- Oxford District Secondary School Board and had been involved in the former New Dundee Co-operative Creamery. Harvey had been supervisor of the hog operation at the Stratford Livestock Exchange.

Beloved husband of Myrtle G. (Berst) who predeceased him in 1981; loving father of Jim and his wife Marilyn of New Dundee, Barbara Ann and her husband Robert Hallman of Kitchener. Also remembered by Ted Dopp and Wayne Einwechter, both of Toronto. Fondly remembered by a number of grandchildren; great-grandchildren and Bonnie Renecker of the Stratford area. Dear brother of Eldon of Sudbury, Mass., Earl and his wife Ella, Lorne and his wife Elvera, Orville and his wife Magdalena, all of New Dundee and Clare and his wife Gertie of Waterloo.

Harvey was predeceased by a son, Robert in infancy and a brother, Emmerson.

Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at 9 a.m., transfer will be made to St. James Lutheran Church, New Dundee for the service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Wilker officiating. Burial to follow in Union Cemetery, New Dundee.

She was a former member of the KW Philharmonic Choir. a member of the Waterloo County Quilter's Guild and a former member of the Waterloo Horticultural Society. She loved gardening and quilting.

Mrs. Duench's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo from 7-9 p.m. this evening and 2 and 79 p.m. Wednesday. Passed away peacefully in Cambridge on Sunday, February 9, 2014 surrounded by family, in her 61st year. Jan was born to the late Ruth Knack and Elmer Thorman November 23, 1952, predeceased by her brother Robert Thorman. Jan was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Janice is survived by her husband Craig; her daughters Jessica and Maggie; and her sisters: Donna Graham, Carol Thorman and Carol Thorman (nee McDonald). Janice was a teacher with the WRDSB for 32 years. Janice loved spending her winters in Tucson, Arizona and her summers in Southampton, Ontario. Robert John (Rob)-Peacefully, at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Saturday, April 23. 1994, in his 40th year. Beloved husband of Carol MacDonald; devoted father of Kelly, Julie and Scott, all at home. Rob is survived by his three loving sisters, Carol, Janice (Mrs. Craig Dolbeer) and Donna (Mrs. Randy Graham), all of Cambridge. Greatly missed uncle of 27 nieces and nephews plus one great-niece. Son-in-law of Robert MacDonald and Shirley MacDonald, both of Cambridge. Rob was born in Cambridge and was a lifelong resident of the area. Predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Ruth (Knack) Thorman. Rob was President of E. Thorman Construction Ltd. He was also an active supporter of Cambridge Minor Sports as a coach of Preston Minor Softball, Preston and Cambridge Minor Hockey Associations and Cambridge Minor Baseball. He helped coach the 1993 Single A Provincial Champion Major Tyke Cubs. He was a past president of the Cambridge Home Builders' Association and former Church Council Chairman of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 588 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 26, 1994 at 1: 30 p.m., with Rev. Norris Heubner officiating. Interment in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Suddenly, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Sunday July 7, 2002., at the age of 57 years. Helen Thorman of Cambridge is predeceased by her husband, Stuart McLean (1986). Loved daughter of Margery and the late Harold Thurman. Best friend and sister of Shirley (Gary) Bowman of Cambridge and John (Janice) of Waterloo: special aunt to Shawn (Melanie) Bowman and Colin Bowman, all of Cambridge, John (Tara) Thurman of Mansfield, Ohio, Jeff (Michelle) Thorman of Ottawa and Tim (Kayrn) Thorman of Cambridge. Helen was the former superintendent of Human Resources for the Waterloo Region District School Board and the former Principal of both Preston Parkway Public School and Queensmount School, Kitchener. A Celebration of Helen's life will he conducted at King Street Baptist Church, 361 King St.. Cambridge on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
