    Notes:

    Schwartzentruber, Elizabeth, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Wagler, was born in East Zorra Twp., March 24, 1871; passed away after a comparatively short illness, Feb. 19, 1957, at the home of her son Elmer; aged 85 y. 10m. 26 d. She accepted Christ as her Saviour in her youth and united with the Amish Mennonite Church, to which faith she remained faithful all her life. On Feb. 15, 1906, she was united in marriage to Christian Schwartzentruber, who survived her by less than two months. (His obituary appears above). Surviving are 2 sons (Elmer, Baden, and Solomon, Petersburg), 8 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and one brother (Joseph). Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the St. Agatha Church on Feb. 23 in charge of Ben Gingerich, Orland Gingerich, Peter Nafziger, and Moses Jantzi, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    District Couple To Observe 50th Wedding Anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. Christian Schwartzentruber will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary o n February 15th, and will be at home to their friends on Sunday afternoon and evening, Feb. 12th, on the homestead at the home of Solomon Schwartzentruber, 1 mile west of Petersburg.


    Both Mr. and Mrs. Schwartzentruber are in fairly good health. The former is 90 years old, and his wife will be 85 in March. They were married Feb. 15, 1906, by the late Jacob Lichti, pastor of Wellesley Amish Mennonite Church.

    Mr. Schwartzentruber was born in Wilmot township near Petersburg, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chris tian Schwartzentruber. He has one brother living, John Schwartzentruber, of Petersburg. Mrs. Schwartzentruber is the former Elizabeth Wagler, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wagler of Wellesley township and she has one brother living, Joseph S. Wagler, of Wellesley.


    Mr. and Mrs. Schwartzentruber have two sons, Solomon, on the homestead; and Elmer of near New Hamburg. They also have seven
    grandchildren

    Wellesley - Mrs. Mary Jantzi, 79, of RR 1, Wellesley, died Thursday at the home of her stepson, David W. Jantzi, RR 1, Wellesley, after falling down the cellar steps. Death was due to a fractured skull. She was attended by Dr. C. S. Seller of Wellesley. Born Feb. 19, 1875, in East Zorra, she was the former Mary Wagler, daughter of the late Joseph Wagler and the former Mary Schwartzentruber. She was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, 3rd Line of Wellesley. Her husband John Jantzi, predeceased her in 1950. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Enoch (Sarah) Horst of Linwood; five stepdaughters, Mrs. Jacob (Lydia) Albrecht and Mrs. David (Mattie) Zehr of Crosshill; Mrs. Christian (Barbara) Albrecht of Vero Beach, Fla., Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Roes of Millbank and Mrs. David (Catherine) Nafziger of Topping. Also three stepsons, Noah Jantzi of Wellesley and John W. and David W., both of RR 1, Wellesley; a brother Joseph Wagler of RR 1, Wellesley and a sister, Mrs. Christian Schwartzentruber of RR 2, Baden. Forty-two grandchildren also survive. The body is at the David W. Jantzi home, RR 1, Wellesley, where a short funeral service will be conducted Monday at 1: 30 p.m. Removal will be made to Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church for a memorial service at 2: 30 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Bishop Samuel Roth will officiate.

    Joseph S. Wagler

    WELLESLEY - Joseph S. Wagler, 81, RR 1, Wellesley, died early today at K-W Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in East Zorra Township, Nov. 16, 1884, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wagler.

    He was a member of Mapleview Mennonite church, Wellesley. He farmed at RR 1, Wellesley until his retirement ten years ago.

    He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Lichy, whom he married in Wellesley Township, Dec. 23, 1906; two sons, John of London and Alvin of South Cayuga; seven daughters Idella of Waterloo, Mrs. Erin (Eileen) Horst of RR 1 Elmira, Mrs. John (Almeda) Klassen of Kitchener, Mrs. Emmanuel, (Barbara) Kuepfer of RR 1, St. Agatha, Mrs. Harold (Nelda) Cressman of RR 1, Wellesley, Mrs. Clinton (Hilda) Bechtel of RR 2, Kitchener, and Mrs. David (Mary) Brunk, RR 1, Gadshill; 45 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Harvey, and two brothers and two sisters.

    The body will be at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, Wellesley, until noon Wednesday when removal will be made to Mapleview Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Bishop Christian Steicher will officiate. Friends and relatives are asked to pay their last respects prior to the time of the service.

Elmer served the congregation until 1979 when he was named Pastor Emeritus. Since 1993, he was a resident of Nithview Home where he has enjoyed assisting fellow residents. Beloved husband of the late Magdalena (Mattie) Wagler, who predeceased him August 10, 1996.     Peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late John Klassen. Loving mother of Walter and his wife Judy, Elaine and her husband Robert Swartz, Elsie and her husband Willard Horst, Clifford and his wife Jean, Audrey Herlick and Marlene O'Brien and her husband Jim Illig. Dear sister of Mary Brunk, Eileen and her husband Aaron Horst, Hilda and her husband Clinton Bechtel, Nelda and her husband Harold Cressman and Alvin and his wife Miriam Wagler and family friend, Nora Shantz: cherished grandmother of 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Predeceased by one grandson; two brothers and two sisters. Almeda was a longtime member of First Mennonite Church, where she was involved with Bon Accord and Ladies Aid. She was an avid gardener with a true love for growing flowers and food to help provide for the needs of her family. The family will receive friends at Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Dr., Cambridge, today (Thursday) from 3-5 p.m. and at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m: Funeral service will be held at First Mennonite Church, 800 King St. E., Kitchener on Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment Memory Gardens to follow.

    She was born in Wilmot township 83 years ago, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lichti) Wagler. She was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church where she was a member of the WMSC. Barbara and Emanuel attended the former Waterloo Market and the Kitchener Market as vendors for a number of years.

    Beloved wife of Emanuel Kuepfer of Nithview Home whom she married, October 23, 1932. Loving mother of Levi and his wife Beatrice of New Hamburg, Mervin of Kitchener, Edgar and his wife Betty of Lacombe, Alta., Clare of RR 1, St. Agatha; ever remembered by 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Joe Wolf of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Karen Kuepfer of Waterloo. Dear sister of Alvin and his wife Miriam of RR 2, Atwood, Almeda (Mrs. John Klassen) of Cambridge, Nelda and her husband Harold Cressman of RR 1, St. Agatha, Mary (Mrs. David Brunk) of Brunner, Hilda and her husband Clinton Bechtel of Kitchener, Eileen and her husband Aaron Horst of RR 1, Elmira.
