Notes |
- Abraham Gehman, "is married to Mary Ann Rellinger. They reside on part of his father's old homestead."
Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.].
___________
Son of one of the pioneer settlers of Waterloo county Abram Gehman died at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home of his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. John Cassel of Doon at the age of 89 years.
The late Mr. Gehman was born at what is now Dumfries Station and had been a resident of the Galt district all his life. Through nearly nine decades he watched and assisted in the development of this district often recalling his work with the C.P.R. in grading the road-bed for the present line. His father Solomon Gehman came to this district from Pennsylvania at an early age, making the arduous trip in the Conestogo wagon of that period, hauled by oxen. His wife Mary Rellinger predeceased him 17 years ago. There are surviving: four daughters and two sons. Mrs. J. Cassel, Doon; Mrs. G. Hussey, Dumfries Station; Mrs. W. Waddell, Warren, Ohio; Mrs. J. Campbell, Galt: Amos, Dickie Settlement, and Harry, Waterloo town line, there are 29 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Cottrill Brothers' Funeral Parlors, Galt. Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in Blair Cemetery.
