Death of Mr. A. C. F. Doerner of Preston.

By an accident at Mr. Allen's coal yard on Tuesday afternoon last this well-known citizen of Preston was so seriously injured that at an early hour on Wednesday morning he breathed his last. It appears that Mr Derner had driven down to the yard to get a barrel of water lime, and after getting into the shed, as a matter of precaution before trying to get the barrel into the waggon the horse was taken out and the wheel blocked with a lump of coal. The barrel was stored on a floor about seven feet off the ground, and to get it in the waggon a slide was laid from the higher floor to the waggon box. Mr. Doerner and Mr. Golby getting into the waggon then started to slide the barrel down the slide, but while doing so it is supposed the wheel crushed the lump of coal that it was blocked with, and as a consequence the waggon started suddenly forward, throwing Golby off one side and Doerner off the other, the barrel also falling. How Mr. Doerner met with the injury which caused his death is not clearly known, but it is supposed that the barrel in falling must have struck him, for as soon as Mr. Golby, who was but slightly injured, could pick himself up and go to Mr Doerner's assistance, he found him complaining of great pain in his bowels, and evidently most seriously injured. After a short rest he was conveyed to Mr. Bernhardt's Hotel, and Dr. Sylvester summoned, when such remedies as could be administered were applied, but while there was a slight revival, for a time, the symptoms were so grave that the medical attendant could hold out but little hope of recovery. No external marks of injury were visible, and the injury must have been internal. During the night, the patient gradually sank, breathing his last early in the morning. He retained his consciousness to the last.

Wednesday afternoon Dr. Sylvester held a post mortem examination, when he found severe laceration of the bowels, and injury to the liver and messentry, apparently making it certain that in some way the barrel must have fallen upon him.

The funeral of the deceased will take place from his late residence in Preston, today (Friday), at 1 p. m., to Preston Cemetery.
