- FORMER MAYOR DIES SUDDENLY
Stricken With Heart Attack At Home This Afternoon; Born In Zurich
Charles Greb, a former mayor Kitchener, died suddenly at his of home, 64 Mansion street, shortly after two o'clock this afternoon from a sudden heart attack. He was 74 years of age, and had been was in his usual good health up to the moment of his fatal seizure. In fact Mr. Greb was leaving the house to drive two friends downtown when he was stricken.
The deceased had a long record of public service here. He entered the city council in 1917 serving every year until 1921 he was elected mayor to which office he was re-elected the following year. After retiring from the mayor's chair at the end of 1922, he was out of council for a short period but returned in 1924 to public life as an alderman serving until 1927, and he served again from 1929 to 1931.
During his service on the council he was chairman of important standing committees, including the Board of Works. By virtue of his position as mayor he sat on the various commissions and boards during 1921 and 1922.
Mr. Greb was a member of the Twin City lodge F. and A. M.
The late. Mr. Greb was born in Zurich, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Greb of that town, on December 2, 1859. After coming to Kitchener many years ago, Mr. Greb engaged in the shoe manufacturing business, retiring from the actual managerial duties about ten years ago.
He was a member of the trustee board of First English Lutheran church, and manifested an active interest in all affairs of congregation. He was one of the organizers of the Brotherhood Movement within the church, and one of its most energetic leaders up to the time of this death.
Surviving are one son, Irvin C. Greb, of this city; three brothers, Harry W. Greb of Grand Island, Neb., William Greb of Stratford, and Edward H. Greb of Detroit; four sisters. Mrs. Emma Racey of Kitchener. Mrs. L. Schneuker of Milverton, Mrs. C. Steckles of Detroit and Mrs. John Brenner of Zurich. His wife and one daughter, Mrs. William Dumart, predeceased him.
The funeral will likely be held Sunday.
