- Dr. Beck, K-W Dentist, Dies at 68
Dr. Charles L. (Todd) Beck. 68, of 55 Lydia St., a dentist in the Twin Cities for 40 years, died today at St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Beck of Blair, and a cousin of the late Sir Adam Beck, one of the founders of Ontario Hydro.
His first employer was the old department of railways and canals. He had to snowshoe for three weeks to get to his job at Point Nelson from the end of the railway line. He stayed there for three years and left in 1918 to enter the Toronto University dental college. He was valedictorian of his graduating class in 1923 and began his practice in Kitchener the same year.
Dr. Beck was a past president of the Inter-County Dental Association, a member of the Percy Lake Hunt Club, Haliburton, the Waterloo County Game and Fisheries Association, the Waterloo County Historical Society and Highland Road, Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen M. Johnston whom he married in Toronto in 1931; a daughter, Mrs. A. R. (Helen Elizabeth) Stover of Tillsonburg: a sister, Mrs. E. B. (Edith) Jost of Montreal, and one grandchild.
A brother Joseph and three sisters, Gertrude, Elizabeth and Mrs. S. H. (Nona) Pryce, predeceased him. The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home where the service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday by Rev. W. L. Pierce.
