      Dr. Cyril Rankine MacLean, 74, of 1406 Kuhl St., Manitowoc, former Memorial Hospital anesthesiologist and president of Memorial Hospital Medical staff, died Saturday evening in Rochester, Minn.

      Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in St. James Episcopal Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. William Harvey will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

      Dr. MacLean was born June 23, 1905, in Head of St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia, son of the late James and Mabel Rankine MacLean. He attended schools in Weston, Ontario, Canada, where he was graduated from Weston High School. He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, and practiced his internship in Western Hospital in Toronto and his residencies in Montreal General and Sick Children Hospital in Toronto. Prior to entering the Royal Canadian Air Force as a medical officer in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for two years, he practiced medicine in Timmins, Ontario, Canada for 17 years. Following his discharge from the Air Force he entered the Lahey Clinic in Boston, Mass., where he received his American certification in anesthesiology, after which he came to Wisconsin as the anesthesiologist for Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1977. Dr. MacLean married Edna Gardner Kuehner Nov. 13, 1954, in Manitowoc. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Manitowoc Elks Lodge No. 687, American College of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthetic Research Society.

      Survivors include his wife, Edna, and two brothers, Owen L. of Moncton, New Brunsiwck, Canada.

      Friends may call in Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Memorial Hospital or the charity of your choice. The casket will remain closed.
