Notes |
- Mrs. Benjamin Woolsey
A resident of Ayr for more than half a century, Mrs. Benjamin Woolsey died in Galt Hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 10, aged 80 years. She had been ill for seven weeks following a stroke at her home. Born Dorothy Ellen Colby at Highgate, Ontario, she was a daughter of James Colby and Catharine McKim. Early in life, she learned tailoring as a vocation and during her residence here was noted for her fine work with the needle. Following her marriage, she moved with her husband to Preston and eventually to Ayr about the turn of the century. Her kind disposition and quiet motherly nature made her scores of friends in the community and her willingness to assist with kindly deeds brought her close to the hearts of her immediate neighbors. She was one of the oldest and most valued members of Christ Anglican Church here. Surviving, besides her husband, is one son, James; three nieces and two nephews, as follows: Mrs. Harry Thompson, Detroit; Mrs. Walter Hillier, Detroit; Mrs. Norval Murray, West Lorne; Hanlan Gosnell, Leamington, and John Colby, Wallaceburg.
The Funeral
The funeral, which was largely attended, was held from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Saturday, with service conducted by Rev. Wenham. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Roland Maeder, Norman Gillespie, Charles Gunn, William Williamson, G. S. Dalrymple and Erb Clark.
