  KLINCKHARDT, EDWARD A considerable amount of investigation was required to uncover what knowledge we have about this man. The first mention was by Uttley, who referred to him as Dr. Klinkert, saying that he was the first doctor. He was born in Saxony in 1809, ar. d graduated from the University of Leipzig in 1832. As he received his licence from the Upper Canada Medical Board on January 5, 1835 it is obvious that he arrived here between 1832 and 1835, similarly, the fact that he settled in New Athens, Illinois, in 1838, allows a spread of 3 to 4 years to accomodate his departure for the south. Apart from the fact that he was in Waterloo Township in January 1835, and Uttley's anecdotal remark, we have no definite information regarding his stay here. He died in New Athens on January 1, 1889 at the age of 90 years. Dr. Alexander D. Campbell, Doctors in Waterloo County 1852-1925 __________ Dr. Eduard Klinckhardt one of the St. Clair Co.'s oldest physicians died on Tuesday morning in New Athens Age 81.
