    • ELAINE FITTON Mother, teacher and role model 1924 - 2007 Elaine Dorothy Fitton, J. Albert and Leoma Smith's eldest of three, passed away, peacefully at Columbia Forest Long Term Care, on Saturday, March 24, 2007, in her 82nd year. Predeceased by her parents; beloved husband, Arthur and brother, Louis Smith. A warm, gentle and loving lady, she will be affectionately remembered for her joy in her family - son, Peter and wife Tori; granddaughters, Allison and Carolyn; sister, Phyllis Forbes and husband Ralph; niece, Elaine Forbes Ormston and family; nephews, Russell Forbes, Jeffrey and Peter Smith and families and sister-in-law, Joan Devlin and family; for her dedication as a mother; for her commitment to her students as teacher, guidance counsellor and charities sponsor at Waterloo Collegiate and as superintendent of the Beginners Department at Zion United Church; for her creativity as reporter for the A-Spire at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church; and for her cheerfulness, good humour and thoughtfulness towards all who knew her. Elaine was born in Kitchener where she attended Kitchener Collegiate Institute and thereafter graduated from the University of Western Ontario. Elaine attended Ontario Teacher's College where she received her Certificate and then practiced at St. Catherine's Collegiate and then at Waterloo College. She continued teaching English and French for 25 years at Waterloo Collegiate Institute retiring in 1987. She wished to thank her relatives and friends for their love and support during her illness. She also asked that you do a kind deed in her memory. Friends are invited to visit with family on Saturday, April 21, 2007, from 2-5 p.m. in the Fireside Reception Room of Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo. A private service will he held for the family. Condolences for the family or donations to KidsAbility Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and may be arranged through the funeral home.
