- CHAS. WENDORF HANOVER TWIN DIED SUNDAY
Was Oldest Resident of Hanover, Being in 96th Year
BORN IN GERMANY
Twin Brother William Died in Hanover Three Years Ago
HANOVER, March 15-Hanover's oldest resident, Charles Wendorf, passed away at 10.30 o'clock on Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, with whom he had resided for some time, in his 96th year. He was a twin brother of the late William Wendorf, whose death occurred three years ago, and who before the latter's death, were the oldest twin brothers in Canada. His death on Sunday was not unexpected, as he had been in failing health for some time, and his passing was due principally to the infirmities of old age.
The late Chas. Wendorf was born in 1847 in Mechlenburg, Germany, where he was brought up as a young man, and served his country in the Franco-German war in 1870. In the year 1875 the twin brothers came to Canada and settled in Hanover, where they proved to be loyal and useful citizens. They were both engaged in the livery business, one in the east end and the other in then west end of Hanover, and while they were business rivals, they were in close association with each other as much as possible. They took a keen interest in the progress of the town and were held in the highest esteem by all who knew them.
Since the death of his brother, William, three years ago, Charles has made his home with his daughter, his wife having predeceased him several years ago. He is survived by two daughters, Johanna, Mrs. Conrad Schaas, and Sophia, Mrs. Charles Bonsack, both of Hanover; and three sons, William of Hanover, and Herman and Walter. both of Toronto. Deceased was much interested in politics, and was a staunch Liberal ever since coming to Hanover.
