- KITCHENER MAN IS REPORTED BURNED TO DEATH
Detroit, April 29. - Fire exacted death toll of three lives in Detroit during the 24 hours ending Sunday afternoon.
Francis Harold Fleming of Kitchener. Ont., an armless singer, fell asleep while smoking a cigarette in bed at the Hotel Metropolis early this morning. The bed was a mass of flames when rescuers arrived to bear the terribly burned and unconscious man out of the room. He was taken to the Receiving Hospital where he died within a few hours.
Fleming. who was on a tour introducing new songs for the Toronto publishing house of Whaley; Royce and Company, was known as "America's armless baritone."
The other two fire victims were Mrs. Sarah Hatter, 75 years old, and Henry Muell, 33.
