Freeport Woman Rescued From Flood
Kitchener fire department and provincial police take part in rescue as waters swirled around her home, with all avenues of escape cut off; Horses, which had to swim the current, were used by the rescuers; Grand River in spate
(Special Review Telegraphic Service)
KITCHENER, February 21 (By Canadian Press).- Miss Ella Lutz was rescued from her home at Freeport by members of the local fire department and provincial police, when flood waters of the Grand River, which broke their ice bounds early today, swirled about her home, cutting off all avenues of escape. The rescue was effected by a team of horses and a wagon, which was driven across the flats at Freeport, the horses being forced to swim the current at the time. The ice is jammed along the banks of the river, and it is feared the floods will become worse unless the jam is broken.
