Notes |
- George H. Ballard
George Horatio Ballard, one of Elmira's most respected citizens, passed away suddenly early Tuesday afternoon. He was in his 85th year.
Mr. Ballard, despite his age, was most active and he passed away from a heart seizure while digging potatoes he had grown in Mr. R. McCallum's lot on the west side of the town. His health previously had been good and less than two years ago he made a splendid recovery from pneumonia.
Mr. Ballard was a retired farmer, coming to Elmira about 27 years ago from the Township of Wellesley, near Linwood, where he was born, being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Edward Ballard. When a young man he was married to Christine McDonald of North Easthope and they continued to reside in Wellesley until moving to Elmira. He was a consistent member of the United Church and seldom missed attending Sunday service.
Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Mrs. J. C. McKay of Linwood neighborhood and one sister, Mrs. Robert Byers of Elmira.
The body is now resting at the Dreisinger Funeral Chapel and the funeral service will take place at his late home on Queen Street, Elmira, at two o'clock on Friday afternoon, after which the remains will be taken to the Elmira Cemetery for interment. His pastor, Rev. A. W. Fosbuary, will conduct the services.
