- STAMERRA, Giuseppe "Pino" With heavy hearts, the family announces that Pino passed away on April 6, 2019 at Stirling Heights, Cambridge in his 91st year. He is reunited with his loving wife of 57 years, Gilda (2017). Beloved father of Sandra and her husband John and cherished grandfather to Christian. Pino was born in Alliste, Italy. A cobbler by trade, he sold and repaired shoes in his small town of Italy. In search of better opportunities he left his hometown at the age of 21 to work in the coal mines in Belgium and worked in the mines for several years. Pino arrived in Galt, Ontario in the 1950's only to find he could not secure steady employment. As a result he left Galt and headed to Montreal, Quebec but again work was difficult to find, so he headed to Nelson, British Columbia where he worked in the logging industry and at Canadian Pacific Railway. After spending a few years outside of Ontario he came back to Galt and this time he managed to find not just one job but several, including a position at Babcock & Wilcox. During this same period, managing to work several jobs at the same time, he founded Galt Discount Shoe Store in the late 1950's. He was a gifted multitasker and could juggle it all with ease. It was not uncommon for Pino to work three or more jobs at once. At his height in his career he was running several shoe stores and many rental properties which he acquired. He made it all seem effortless but Pino was a natural at it. Pino has had many jobs during his lifetime and worn many hats, hard labour never intimidated him, he loved the challenge and he gave it 110%. In time, Pino became a very successful business man and achieved so much during his lifetime. Pino used to always say to people he met, "I like to work hard, work has never scared me. I have been working hard since I was a little boy, and look where it got me". Pino endured many hardships and challenges in life and he always managed to rise above it. Pino was a risk taker who liked to travel, nothing was impossible in his mind. Whatever venture he embarked on, he usually succeeded. He was able to achieve the impossible. Pino was a tough, fearless man and will always be remembered as a free spirited go getter with an exceptionally strong will. He truly was one of a kind and was a very talented entrepreneur. He will be a very tough act to follow and will be missed dearly. Pino is survived by his sisters Tina, Maria, Gina, and Laura and many nieces and nephews, both here and in Italy. He was predeceased by his parents Pasquale and Loreta and siblings Antonietta, Elio, and Ines. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Stirling Heights for their compassionate care. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Parish, 53 Wellington Street, Cambridge on Friday, April 12th at 10:30 a.m. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery will follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the T. Little Funeral Home (519) 623-1290.
