  • Notes 
    • The late Mrs. Monk, whose maiden name was Hannah Gateman, was born in Waterloo township in the year 1859. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Brant township and there she grew to young womanhood. In the year 1876 she was married to Martin Monk, and they resided in Bentick for 22 years, then moved to Brant and lived there for 27 years, later spending two years in Hanover and have since lived retired in Eimwood, where they celebrated their Golden Wedding four years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Monk were blessed with twelve children, seven sons and five daughters, as follows: Mrs. Fred Thedorf (Lizzie), Brant; Mrs. Joseph Rody (Rachel), Bentinck; Mrs. Harry Cairns (Emma), Chesley; Mrs. William Stade (Dorothy), Chesley; Mrs. Emanuel Litt (Anna), Hanover; William of Walkerton, Henry and George of Brant; Jack Neustadt, Louis of Elm wood of and Edmund of the old homestead. One son, Samuel, predeceased her twelve years ago. Besides the husband and family, Mrs. Monk is survived by 47 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
