- HENSHAW, Harold Vaughn - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Harold V. Henshaw, 83, after a short illness, February 19, 2009, at the home of his daughter Barbara, in Berwick, Nova Scotia. Harold and our beloved mother, Edith lived, worked and raised a family in Waterloo for 27 years, moving back to Nova Scotia in 1974. Dad was a heavy duty mechanic for most of his career before working at Schlichter's establishing their small engines division. Dad was an active member of the K-W Octoberfest Lions Club, the Legion and the Twin City Rifle Club. A gunsmith by hobby and an expert marksman and hunter, Dad continued to enjoy these hobbies throughout his life. As recently as three years ago, Dad came second in The Nova Scotia Provincial Target Shooting Championships. In Nova Scotia he was an employee of Atlantic Air Cooled Engines, where he was a small engines mechanic, teacher and salesman. Dad loved people and he was always quick with a smile, a helping hand and a joke for every occasion. Harold was a proud Veteran of the Second World War and served with the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment at The Battle of the Scheldt in Holland. He was active in Regiment reunions and Remembrance Day ceremonies including the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of Holland, a trip he shared with his son Harold. A highlight for Dad was the Year of the Veteran Via Rail Troop Train excursion from Halifax to Ottawa for Remembrance Day Ceremonies which he shared with his two best friends from his regiment. We were proud of his featured participation in the ATV International Award winning documentary of that memorable trip called "A Sentimental Journey." Born in Yarmouth NS April 21 1925, he was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Donald and his beloved wife of 48 years Edith (Lockwood). Left to mourn are daughters Paula (Pierre Lessard,) Linda (Scott Tanner) Barbara ( Cory Kent) son Harold (Beverley Maziarz,) 9 grandchildren, one great grand daughter, sister Jean Dole and extended family and many friends. The funeral has taken place with over 200 people attending. His ashes will be interned along side his cherished wife in Parrsboro Nova Scotia this summer.
