Notes |
- AIKENS, HENRIETTA SARAH (Nee Paddock)
After a brief but painful illness from an attack of appendicitis, on Thursday morning, April 16, 1896, at the early age of 34 years, 10 months and 10 days. Wife of William J. Aikens. She had been ill for some time in the Guelph Hospital, where she went about seven weeks ago, for the purpose of undergoing an operation. She had apparently recovered from its effects and was brought home on the Thursday preceding her death. Mrs. Aikens, a devoted wife, affectionate mother, sympathizing friend and consistent Christian, is at rest. She leaves a precious memory. She was the daughter of Thomas and Eliza Paddock, was born and educated in Puslinch and had lived in this vicinity all her life. As the wife of William Aikens, whom she married about fifteen years ago, she established the home that has been the fount of hope and comfort to so many. Her's was a charming disposition, her's a nature so attractive, her's a manner so gentle, her's a life so full of sunshine, that all who came in contact with her felt that they have been benefited and blessed thereby. As a friend, ever ready with counsel and service and never wearying in well-doing. As a mother, alive to all responsibilities of her position, thankful, careful, with love as the great element in her life. She has left memories the most sweet and fragrant. Her bereaved family are her husband, one of Puslinch's most respected citizens and four small children, three boys and one little girl, the oldest is 11 years and the youngest 18 months old. The funeral was held from her residence in Puslinch on Saturday afternoon to Hespeler Cemetery, followed by a large concourse of friends and relatives.
