Henry F. B. Schaefer was an immigrant from Hesse Darmshtadt, Germany. The 1851 Census describes him as a laborer, 54 years old, wife Elizabeth 49, and daughter Margaret 19, both born in Germany. They were living in a one and half storey round log house. In 1852 one acre of land was acquired from the George Heppner estate (Reist property) An additional seven acres were purchased from Moses Bauman, an heir of Jacob (Yoch) Sehneider - Dec. 1, 1853. The Schaefer family lived here for thirteen years until it was sold to Michael Garth on Nov.22, 1865, who sold almost immediately on Dec. 8, 1865 to Conrad Gremm.
