  Herbert (Peter) Denis-Nathan was born in King William's Town, South Africa. He attended Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., and came to Canada in 1930 where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph, and teaching qualifications from the Ontario College of Education. He taught at Galt Collegiate and Vocational School where he became vice-principal, retiring in 1970. Denis-Nathan served with the Highland Light Infantry during the Second World War and was awarded the Efficiency Medal. He served on the boards of the Ontario Pioneer Community Foundation, the Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation and the Waterloo County Hall of Fame. He was chairman of the Wellington-Waterloo Branch of the Chemical Institute of Canada, president of the Waterloo Historical Society and a director of the Ontario Educational Association.
