    • Old Woolwich Resident Gone

      There passed away on Tuesday one of the oldest residents of this district, in the person of Ignatz Martin, who died at the home of his son, Mr. Medard Martin, two miles north of Elmira.

      Deceased was born in Alsace, Germany, on February 3rd, 1827. He came to Canada with his parents when he was 24 years old, and they settled on the farm where the subject of this sketch died. About four years later he was married to Barbara Meyer. Together they shared the burdens of early pioneer life, clearing 200 acres of primeval forest and building up for themselves a comfortable home. About 23 years ago they retired from farm life and removed to Elmira. Here Mrs. Martin died about 7 years ago, and the deceased went to live with his son, Joseph, of Hawkesville. The latter died about 2 years ago, and when the father began to fail in health a few months ago, he came back to end his days at the old home.

      The following children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Martin, John, living in North Dakota, Magdalena, married to John Stoesser, but now dead; Lizzie, Mrs. John Schmidt, of Walhalla, N.D.; Joseph, dead; Medard, on the old homestead, Albert, Charles and George of North Dakota.

      The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 17th, at 9:30 a.m., at the house, arriving at St. Theresa Church at about 10 o'clock. Burial will take place at the roman Catholic Cemetery.
