- Virginia Rose Bechtel Lang December 23, 1918 - December 7, 2013 Granddaughter of early Bellevue pioneer, Isaac K. Bechtel, and daughter of Isaac L. and Ethel Shiach Bechtel. The family moved from Bellevue to Kirkland in 1939. She attended Bellevue Trade and High School. She graduated from the U. of W. in 1941. She was employed by the Navy Cost Inspector at the Lake Washington Shipyards in Kirkland where seaplane tenders were being built. In 1945 she visited Los Angeles, and found a job at War Assets Administration. She stayed there 3 years. With 3 months annual leave saved up, she joined friends in Hawaii and spent 4 years there employed at Tripler Hospital Army Headquarters and CAA. Returning to L.A. she married a realtor, Gerard Lang and son Ralph was born in 1956. In 1960 they moved to Richland, WA. Gerard passed away in 1961. She remained in Richland as a secretary in the G.E. medical operation until 1967, when she moved back to Kirkland. For 8 years she was employed at the U.S. Public Hospital in Seattle. She retired as Secretary to the Director in 1980. She volunteered at the Marymoor Museum and the Bellevue Historical Society. Member of National Assoc. of Retired Federal employees, and the Eastside Heritage Foundation. She enjoyed trips to the Orient, Greece and the U.K. She was preceded in death by both parents in 1967; brothers Bruce, Dale, Donald and Wayne Bechtel; sister Ruby Flexer and son Ralph in 2001. She is survived by sister Joanne Black of Kennewick and many nieces and nephews. Remembrances may be made to Evergreen Hospice, 12822 124th Lane N.E., Kirkland, WA 98033. No services at her request.
