- Jacquelyn "Jackie" Ann Walters nee Barnes 1 Apr 1938 - Sep 2 2021
Jackie passed away on September 2, 2021 following a lengthy illness. She has been missed by so many.
Jackie was born and raised in London Ontario to parents Marjorie and William Barnes. She was big sister to three brothers, Bill, Craig and Jeff. Port Stanley was a favourite spot for family outings and the backdrop for many stories \endash most true, some embellished over the years.
Jackie loved music and dance. As a young girl she shared her talent and skill with the neighbourhood kids by giving dance lessons in the basement of her family home. She devoured movie musicals, developing her own dance style after that of Cyd Charisse \endash about whom Fred Astaire once said, "When you've danced with Cyd, you stay danced with."
Her love of music would lead her to her role as record librarian at CFPL Radio in London where she met Johnnie Walters. They married in 1958 and soon after headed to the US where Jackie supported Johnnie's career in broadcasting and raised daughters Leigh and Aubrey (Andrew).
The family returned to southern Ontario in 1973, and a few years later, Jackie applied her administrative and project management skills to a role at the Waterloo Region health unit where, over 18 years, she made many friends who she adored.
Retiring early gave Jackie and Johnnie the opportunity to pursue their love of long drives in search of the best French fries \endash where their two grandchildren Alyssa and Joseph (Sophie) would often be in tow. Many winters were spent in Destin FL always returning with amusing stories of the wildlife \endash many of them misadventures involving alligators and fire ants.
Jackie will be remembered for her dedication to family, her love of music, dance, reading, and cooking, including her chocolate chip cookies and arguably the best fried chicken in the region. Those who had the opportunity to know Jackie \endash to have "danced" with her - will "stay danced with."
