  WHITLA James passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 23rd, 1988. James Whitla of 9 Amber Road in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Jessie Gibb. Dear father of Alexander and his wife Margaret of Saxville, New Brunswick and Mary-Lynne (Mrs. George McNeill) of Portland, Oregon. Dear brother of Joseph of Cambridge. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Predeceased by a brother William and sisters Ellen and Margaret. Mr. Whitla was born in Northern Ireland on December 29th, 1902 and has been a resident of Cambridge since 1908 and retired in December 1967, formerly Personnel Manager and Salesman of the Canadian General Tower Limited and a member of the 25 Year Club, he was a member of First United Church and was Sunday School Superintendent for many years and an Honourary Elder and a life member of the Mens Club of First United Church, former YMCA Boys' Work Secretary and Board Member, Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Galt and an Executive Member of St. John's Ambulance and Past President of Galt Hospital Board, active in Theatricales and First Church Players and Galt Comedy Players an avid Golfer and coached a Ladies Softball Team in his younger years. At the request of the family there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance will be held at First United Church on Saturday, March 26th at 2 p.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to First United Church Memorial Funds or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements by Coutts and Son Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street.
