- John Ralph Simmons was born at Frankford, Ontario on May 10, 1893, son of Dr. John Uriah Simmons and Laura Arnott. He was a Graduate of the Medical School at Queen's University in 1918. Dr. Simmons was a veteran of World War I and served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps on several hospital ships and in hospitals overseas; he rose to the rank of Captain. He spent a year in post-graduate work at Broad Street Hospital in New York City and hung his shingle at Springbrook, Ontario, removing to Elmira where he remained for the duration. Dr. Simmons was united in marriage to Constance Davis on June 16, 1926. He was favourably known throughout the area, with a high reputation as a Physician and served there as Medical Officer of Health. Dr. John Ralph Simmons died on May 29, 1943, aged 50 years and 19 days.

Dr. Simmons, who recently has taken over the medical practice of Dr. W. D. S. Cross, has been appointed Medical Officer of Health to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr. Cross.
Dr. Simmons has moved his family and household effects to Elmira from Frankfort.
