- John Washington Shupe, "was born in Washington, (Mr. J. Washington Shupe was the first child born in Washington after it had received its name and was added to the list of post offices for Upper Canada, now Ontario) November 18th, 1849, and died December 9th, 1881, of an injury received in a sawmill. On July 21st, 1874, he was married to Mandana Morse. They resided near St. Thomas, Ontario, where he was engaged as a carpenter. His family consisted of three children, namely:...The widow is again married to Samuel Fordney and resides in Plattsville, Ontario."
