Notes |
- Skrobecki, Julius "Jules" M.
1928-2009 In the early hours of Friday, November 6, 2009, Jules passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, at his residence, The Village of Winston Park, in Kitchener. He was 81. Jules was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Ania "Anna" in 2008, and also by his parents, Stanislaw and Halina, and his only brother, Slawek. He was the dear dad of Mark, Christine (Mike), and Richard (Christopher). He is also survived by "cousins" Jack and Penny and their children of Kitchener, and Ania of Pennsylvania; aunt Halina and brother-in-law Andy, also of Kitchener, sister-in-law Wanda, of Washington and several nieces and nephews. Jules was born in Poznan, Poland and lived in Wilno, Poland until 1941 when he and his family were forced to flee to Sweden to escape the war. In 1946, they moved to London, England, where Jules studied business at commercial school. It was in 1951 that he decided to emigrate alone to Canada in hope of a better future. Jules arrived at the docks in Montreal with $35 and a lot of determination in his pocket. After marrying Ania in 1956, and several jobs, he brought the family to Galt in 1959, where he owned Jules Camera Shop until 1976. At age 52, Jules made a career change and went to work for James Morton Ltd. in Cambridge 16 years later, he retired as Operations Manager for Purchasing & Inventory. Jules had many interests over the years, including stamp collecting, model railroading, camping, travel, bowling, woodworking, and of course, photography. He had a love of jazz, big band and classical music; of reading and of studying world history; and was an unbeatable trivia player. During the 60's and 70's, he gained Expert Marksman status through local and provincial competitions. In recent years as his health declined, Jules never failed to maintain his quiet, gentle ways, and as always, his dignity. A memorial visitation will take place at COUTTS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 96 St. Andrews Street on Thursday November 12, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, with tributes being shared at 7:30 pm. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at the time of inurnment. If desired, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cambridge & District Humane Society. A very special thank- you to staff of Winston Park for their compassionate and dignified care, and for this note they put on his door after his passing. "Peace has come. All is still. Know that Mad a difference."
