Notes |
- KOHRAD GRUNDIG - came to Rosendale July 25, 1914 having purchased the Herman Meyer property for $1,700. He was a German, unmarried, medium height, about 40 years of age, sandy hair with china blue eyes. He was a watchmaker and jeweller by occupation, but only worked when he wished to. He was not a sociable type and lived a life of his own. He kept bees, goats and raised canaries. These were not kept in cages but flew around the house. His careless housekeeping rather shocked the neat housewives of Rosendale, and then to their utter horror he was known to take shower baths under the eavetrough in a rain storm. He lived in Rosendale for six years, then moved to the village of Breslau where he suffered a coronary attack on May 7th, 1941. Kindly neighbors provided a few flowers and the Mennonite minister, Mr. Oscar Burkholder, conducted a short funeral service. Mr. Grundig did not at any time attend a church service, but was given
a decent Christian burial. Interment was made in Cressman Mennonite cemetery, Breslau. The Public Trustee of Osgoode Hall, Toronto, Ontario, took charge of his affairs and found no identification of any kind. He certainly did a good job of getting lost if that was his wish.
