  Sommer, Kurt Passed away while on a golfing vacation in South Carolina with his "Tuesday Night Group" of long time friends and former collegues from sudden heart failure, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Kurt was blessed to have been married to Louise Horton for the last 14 years and previously to the late Cecile for 25 years. Dear father of Tricia Sommer (Desmond Sweeney). Grandfather of Ceara and Roane. Stepfather of Andrea Horton (Gerry Lall), Anthony Horton (Whitney), Alison Horton (Wally Gabler). Grandfather of Nathan, the late Carter, Abigayle, Camille, Elliot and Eva. Dear brother of Heinz, Guenter, Anneliese and Monika. Predeceased by his parents Josef and Elisabeth (nee Wilken) Sommer, brothers Paul, Aloysius and Werner. Kurt spent his career as an educator serving both in the Toronto Catholic District School Board and Waterloo Catholic District School Board. He retired as a principal from St. Augustine School in Cambridge. Kurt's family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467. A memorial mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. Anthony Daniel R.C. Church (29 Midland Drive, Kitchener) followed by a reception in the Parish Life Centre at the church. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Mennonite Central Committee (Syrian Refugees) would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
