On Thursday, June 2, 1988, at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener, Sammy Bowman, of 285 Peel St., New Hamburg. He was born in Wilmot township, 90 years ago, a son of the late Joseph K. Bowman and the former Julia Appel. He had worked at New Hamburg Felt Boot for 50 years and also worked part time at Parkway Ford Sales (Waterloo) Limited, Waterloo, for a number of years. He was a member of Zion United Church, New Hamburg and had been chairman of New Hamburg Hydro Commission, for several years. Sammy was well known for his car polish and waxing of vehicles. He had played OHA senior hockey for over 20 years in New Hamburg and was a member of the Allen Cup Championship team, in 1925-1926 and was known at that time as Motor Bowman. He also enjoyed his daily walk in New Hamburg. Beloved husband of the former Meriam Merner, whom he married June 28, 1940. Lovingly remembered by one son, Leslie Jr. (Sammy) and his wife Bonnie of New Hamburg; five grandchildren, Patricia (Mrs. Gary Cockram), Tammy, Mark. Shane and Amy; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Samantha. Dear brother of Oliver and his wife Betty of Kitchener, Roxy Bowman of Kitchener and Mrs. Ida Ament of New Hamburg. Predeceased by one daughter, Carolyn Ruth Trachsell, in 1976; four brothers, Walter, Lambert, Harley and Allen and one sister, Mrs. Emma Molson. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, after 2 o'clock on Saturday, until Monday, June 6, 1988, at noon, when transfer will be made to Zion United Church, New Hamburg, for the service at 2 p.m., with Rev. M. M. Irwin and Rev. Paul Erb officiating. Interment to follow in Riverside cemetery, New Hamburg.
