Notes |
- CRESSMAN, Lettie Grace (nee Scamont) - 1916-2007. Died quietly, as she had lived, on July 15, at age 91, in the presence of her family at Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge. Lettie was born in Kipawa, Quebec on March 29, 1916, one of six daughters and five sons of Ada Barney and William Scamont. She is survived by her sister Vivian Down of Temiscaming, Quebec. In 1942 Lettie married Ray Cressman in Preston. Their loving partnership lasted 48 years until Ray's death in 1990. Their five children mourn her passing; Janice (Don) Sparrow, John Cressman (Patti Hobler) and Carol (Nyle) Nussli, all of Cambridge; Virginia Jones of San Jose, California and Donna Cressman of Toronto. She is remembered by grandsons, Jason Sparrow, Adam (Mary Claire) Jones, Ben Cressman, Mark Nussli and Nicolas Dubois and granddaughters, Heather Sparrow (Kris Kirk), Natasha Dubois, Devon Cressman and Emma Nussli. Lettie was able to spend a little time with her first great-granddaughter, Sydney Kirk. Lettie was a longtime member of King St. Baptist Church in Preston and also attended Breslau Mennonite Church. Her life was lived through faith and she will be missed by many friends in both church communities. Lettie loved and respected children. Friends so wishing may honour her memory with a contribution to Faith's Orphans Fund, a charity for children orphaned by AIDS in Zambia who work is supported by Lettie's good friend Doraine Ross of Cambridge. Alternatively, donations to MCC (Mennonite Central Committee). Lettie's family is very grateful to the nurses, aides and caregivers at Fairview Suites and nursing home and to the ParaMed and A Senior's Moment assistants, for their loving and kind attention to their mother. Thanks also to the doctors and nurses at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for the excellent care Lettie received there during surgeries over the last year. The family will receive friends at Fairview Mennonite Centre Auditorium, 515 Lang's Drive, Cambridge on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 1: 30 p.m. at King St. Baptist Church in Cambridge. Interment in Breslau Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Barthel Funeral Home in Cambridge.
