      On February 18, 1987, beloved wife of Gerald F. Sturdy; mother of Peter and Marnie: sister of Ruth Ames and also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, born in King township, in 1895. Daughter of the late P. W. Pearson, a former Mayor of Newmarket, Reeve and Warden of York county and MPP for York North. Mrs. Sturdy graduated from Victoria College, University of Toronto in 1918 with a BA degree, having actively participated in university activities, including, debating clubs, university women's hockey and the basketball teams and was elected Head Girl prior to her graduation. Mrs. Sturdy entered Osgoode Hall in 1918, receiving her call to the Bar in 1921 and immediately established a practice under her maiden name, in the former town of Preston. Mrs. Sturdy was active in municipal life, having served on the executive of the University Women's Club, was the first woman elected to the Preston Public School Board and the first woman to serve on the Session at St. Paul's United Church, Cambridge (P) and to represent that church at presbytery. Mrs. Sturdy was appointed a QC in 1982 and was, upon her retirement in 1967, the senior member of a law firm which included her son. There will be no visitation.
