A memorial service for Prof. emeritus. Domm, a 60-year resident of Hyde Park, will be held at 2:30 pm April 8 at the Hyde Park Union Church, 5600 S. Woodlawn Ave. He died Tuesday in Highland Park Hospital
"He was a gentleman and a very professional person," said David Rabuck, a former Ph.D. student. "He expected a lot from people working under him, but he did not found them. He gave them a lot of leeway and freedom. I learned a great deal about writing from him
A native of Ayton, Ontario, Canada, Prof. Domm graduated from North Central College, Naperville, in 1921. He received his Ph.D. magna cum laude in 1926 from the Univer sity of Chicago. From 1926 through 1932 he held various research and teaching positions there in zoology and anatomy.
Prof. Domm authored or coauthored 160 research articles, principally on the endocrines in the physiology of reproduction. He was
concerned with the effects of the sex hormones estrogen and androgen particularly on chickens. He was pioneer in the study of steroids
He was appointed chairman of the anatomy department at Stritch in 1952 and held that position until 1967, when he became professor
The Anatomical Gift Association, a nonprofit organization founded in 1888, handles the gift of bodies from donors to supply nine Midwestern medical schools. It was originally called the Demonstrators Association of Illinois, because professors of anatomy are called demonstrators He served as president and more recently as executive officer of the organization.
"It is easier for a person to think of saving another person than it is for him to think of submitting his body for study although many of our advances come from this kind of arch," he told a Tribune reporter in 1963,
In 1971, North Central College awarded him its Outstanding Alumnus Award and in 1979 gran led him an honorary doctorate.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel, son, William; two grandchildren, and five brothers.
