Notes |
- CAMPBELL, LORNE COLIN was born in Niagara, probably in 1851. He was the son of Dr. Duncan Campbell, President of the Homeopathic Board of Ontario, and a member of the Ontario Medical Council, occupying the position of President of the Council at the time of his death. His son Lorne graduated from Victoria College in 1872 and presumably attended a school of homeopathy until he commenced practice in Galt in 1874, taking over the practice of Dr. G. E. Husband. A card a year later gives his address as "four doors south of Trinity Church."
In November 1875 He was obliged to place a notice in the Dumfries Reformer in response to allegations of rumor- mongers:
"I beg to state that I occupy and shall continue to occupy my office near the Queen's Hotel, and that there is no truth in the report, circulated by interested parties, that I am about to leave Galt."
A year later, however, in a letter to the editor of the editor of the Dumfries Reformer he said: "Having now disposed of the lease, (of his house), it is my intention to leave Galt during the ensuing month."
He was next heard from in the village of Silver Islet where he became medical officer for the mining company there. In February 1879 he sailed from Duluth to Silver Islet in an open boat because of a medical emergency.
In May of 1884 he moved to Port Arthur, where he died on January 9,1885. He was survived by his widow, the former Maude Davidson, daughter of John Davidson, of Galt, and three children.
