  • Notes
    • Lorne Levi Stauffer, "was born March 8th, 1880."

Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.].

      ______________

STAUFFER, LORNE LEVI was born near Waterloo on March 8, 1880. He was the second son of Levi Stauffer and Esther Snider. He married Agnes Bock of New Dundee on September 16, 1908, and they had one son, Ward Stauffer. He died on December 25, 1956 in Waterloo, being survived by his widow and son.

His family were U. E. L., and he was third generation born in Canada. His father was one of the founders and first president of the North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Co.

His preliminary education was received in the local schools and in Berlin High School. He graduated in medicine form the University of Toronto in 1902.

On July 31 that year the Daily Telegraph said he had decided to locate in Newton. Whether or not he did so is in question On Apr. 14, 1904 the News Record said he was visiting friends in Waterloo before taking up his new practice at New Dundee. Later they said that he had removed from Millbank to New Dundee. This was a bit premature as it was not until February 11, 1905 that the Daily Telegraph announced in its New Dundee news.

Bought medical practice. Dr. L. L. Stauffer has purchased the property and practice of Dr. L. E. Rice, and will take possession on March 1st. We are very sorry to part with our esteemed doctor as he has met with very good success in his practice here and vicinity. The indications are that Dr. L. L. Stauffer will have a very large practice, having had very good success with some very serious cases here.

The next news item was in the Daily Telegraph on Sept. 6 1913. Dr. L. Stauffer has sold his practice in New Dundee and purposes entering a new field in Eastern Ontario.

It was not until a year later that he disposed of his New Dundee property by selling it to Dr. B. F. Keillor. The new location was Manilla, where he remained until 1929 when he returned to Waterloo. He served for three and a half years during the war as a captain in the R. C. A. M. A.

In Waterloo he conducted a practice, and also acted as group claims officer for the Mutual Life of Canada, until his retirement.
