Mrs. William Mathison Succumbed to Stroke on Wednesday Last
One of Ayr's oldest residents in the person of Louisa Rae, relict of the late Wm. A. Mathison, passed away at her home at Jedburgh on Wednesday afternoon of last week, in her 86th year. Deceased suffered a stroke the same morning at 7 o'clock, but prior to this had been enjoying her usual good health. Her husband predeceased her about three months ago. The late Mrs. Mathison was born on the farm on the Alps road and had lived in this neighborhood all her life. Her parents, W. Rae and Anne Dryden were born in Scotland and on coming to Canada settled near Reidsville. Deceased was married in 1866, afterwards living on a farm three miles from where she was born. Mr. and Mrs. Mathison celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary here in 1926. She came to Ayr to live about 20 years ago. She was the youngest member of her family and attained a greater age than any of her brothers or sisters. Her husband was the second youngest of his family and lived to a greater age than any of the other members. She was a Presbyterian, being a member of the former Stanley Street Church here. Surviving are three daughters and son, viz.: Mrs. J. Vance, Madden, Alberta; Mrs. A. Fraser, Galt; Mrs. J. M. Scott, RR 2 Ayr; John, of Galt; Thomas of Galt; Walter of Gleichen, Alberta; Edward of Orillia, and Robert and James of Ayr. The funeral took place from her late home at Jedburgh to the Ayr Cemetery on Friday afternoon, and was largely attended. Rev. J. W. Currie, of Knox United Church, conducted the services. The pallbearers were: John and Thomas of Galt, Edward of Orillia, and Robert and James of Ayr, all sons of deceased, and Harold Scott of Woodstock, a grandson.
