Notes |
- CLEMENS, Nelson Byron - FEARFULLY SUDDEN DEATH - A fearfully sudden death occurred in the Township of Waterloo on Saturday evening last. It appears that Mr. Nelson Byron Clemens, son of Joel Clemens, Esq., ex-Reeve of Waterloo, had gone over in the evening after tea, of which he partook heartily, to the residence of his brother-in-law for the purpose of having a talk, and while sitting in his chair chatting, his brother-in-law saw his head suddenly fall to one side, and that he was falling off his chair. He immediately rushed to catch him, and did so, but even then the spark of life had fled and not a movement or pulsation was left to show that the young man had ever existed. Deceased was not quite 20 years of age, had always been strong and hearty, and had never complained of anything which would indicate the existence of heart-disease, yet it is understood that it was of that he died. He was a general favorite in that part of Waterloo and the news of his death cast a gloom over the section in which he and his family resided. The funeral of the young man took place on Tuesday and was very largely attended, the many friends of this much respected family testifying in this way their sympathy with his sorrowing family.
