Woman Killed, Seven Injured In Accidents
An 89-year-old Kitchener man. his Gowanstown district son and an Arthur woman died following two traffic accidents over the weekend.
Seven other persons were injured in the two mishaps. One of them, a son of the Gowanstown man, is in hospital in critical condition.
Two persons were killed and two others injured, one critically, as the result of a two-car collision near Listowel Saturday night.
COLLIDED AT DUSK
The mishap occurred about dusk at a rural intersection on the third concession of Wallace Township about three miles east of highway 23.
Dead are a father and son,, Nicholas Krotz, 89, of 122 Chestnut St., Kitchener, and Ralph Krotz, 48, RR 1, Gowanstown. They are believed to have died almost instantly.
In critical condition in Listowel Memorial Hospital, with undetermined internal chest injuries, is Larry Krotz, 11-year-old son of the younger victim. Hospital officials said he is as well as can be expected.
Also injured and in Listowel Hospital is Marilyn Coulter, 16, RR 3, Listowel. A passenger in of the other car, driven by Keith Campbell, 18, RR 2, Drayton, she received a fractured jaw, facial lacerations, the loss of several teeth and injury to the right wrist. Campbell escaped with bruises and a severe shaking up.
The impact knocked the Krotz car off the road. It crossed the ditch on the west side of the road and came to rest in a nearby field.
The elderly Krotz was found about 20 feet from the wrecked car. The driver of the death car. Ralph Krotz was found draped through the window of the car, while the injured boy lay 10 feet from the vehicle. The car was almost wrecked.
FINISHING HOLIDAY
The Campbell car is believed to have rolled over once before coming to rest at the edge of the road. The accident occured as Ralph Krotz was returning his father to his Kitchener home following a week's holiday at the old family homestead on the 6th concession.
Mrs. Ralph Krotz had remained behind with another son, John, who has the measles.
A native of Wallace Township. Ralph Krotz was born May 6, 1910, on the farm where he had lived all his life. He was secretary-treasurer of the Sixth Line Evangelical United Brethren Church, and for many years was Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent until relinquishing the post a year or two ago.
He is survived by his wife, Idona Walter, whom he married Oct. 7, 1939; two sons, Larry, 11, and John, 8; two brothers, Wesley Krotz, Millbank; Rev. Walter F. Krotz, Dashwood; three sisters, Mrs. Emmerson Wenzel, Crediton; Mrs. George Richmond, Simcoe, and Mrs. Alex Wolf, RR 1, Gowanstown. Nicholas Krotz, 89, a native of ...
