- NICHOLAS JOHN (NICK) HOFLINGER 1922 - 2009 It is with great sadness that the Hoflinger family announces Nick's passing at the K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on Sunday, July 19, 2009. Nick will always be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Honey, and his twin sons, Grant and Greg, and their wives Marnie and Sue. Dear Grandpa to Natalie and Paul, Kyle and Evan. Dear brother of Kay Wigle (Jack) and brother-in-law to Dolly and Don Weaver, Sonny and Pat Hamel, and Eileen Neeb. Nick will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by his beloved, special son, Ricky in 2006 and his parents, Nicholas and Katherine Hoflinger. Nick, with his family, was a pioneer in the frozen food industry, starting from a small meat market and later becoming the largest independent foodservice distributor in Canada. He was a founder of Canada's first national foodservice brand "Sunshine". He was President of K-W Food Services Ltd. (K-W Frosted Foods), Federated Foods Ltd., and Hoflinger Holdings Inc. He was one of the original board members of the K-W Habilitation Services and a member of Calvary Memorial United Church for many years. He was a former member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club and Atlantis Golf Club in Florida. Nick, Honey, and their children and families spent many wonderful happy years at their cottage in Muskoka, as well as their home in Florida. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Nick's life will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Reception will follow the service at the funeral home. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Calvary Memorial United Church (Memorial Fund) would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. In living memory of Nick, a donation will be made by the funeral home to the Trees for Learning Program.
