    • Funeral Rites For Resident

Nicholas S. Lichti, oldest son of Christian and Naney (Schlegel) Lichti, was born at St. Agatha, Canada, January 29, 1871. He passed away at the Geneva hospital March 2, 1954, aged 83 years, 1 month and 1 day. At the age of six he came with his parents to the states to Wayland, Ia. When he was 16 they moved to Thurman, Col.

He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining true and faithful until the end.

March 13, 1904, he was united in marriage to Lena Rediger of Longment, Col. This union was blessed with two sons and six daughters.

In 1907 they came to Shickley, locating on various farms in the community. January, 1947, he retired from the farm and moved to the town of Shickley, where he spent the last years of his life.

One daughter passed away in infancy at Longmont, Col., and his companion died August 20, 1948, also his parents, four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

He had been in ill health the last five years suffering a light stroke leaving him with a throat affliction and a serious heart condition. He bore his sufferings patiently leaving all things with his Lord.

He attended church faithfully until the last, when his health wouldn't permit. He was much concerned about the welfare of his family.

He became ill Sunday and was taken to the hospital Monday morning. All was done that loving hands could do but the Lord saw fit to call him home early Tuesday morning to be with Him.

He leaves to mourn his departure, two sons, Alvin and Nick, of Shickley, five daughters, Elva, Mrs. Elmer Birky; Nancy, Mrs. Elmer Nickel of Shickley; Sylvia, Mrs. Harry Kennel of Geneva; Lilly, Mrs. Richard Farnsworth of Lincoln; and Barbara at home, four sons-in-law and two daughters-in-law, Ruth and Florence, fifteen grandchildren, one brother, Dan of Bruning, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Kauffman of Wayland, Ia., and Mrs. Lena Schlegel of Shickley and a host of relatives and friends.

Father has left us. Here on earth we will meet no more,
His footstep will fall no more by his home door,
His rocking chair is empty, his glasses laid by,
He has gone to join loved ones in that beautiful home on high.

Services were held Thursday afternoon, March 4, at 2:30 at Salem Mennonite church near Shickley, with Bishop P. R. Kennel officiating. Casketbearers were five grand-sons, Richard and Lawrence Lichti, Roger Nickel, Galen Kennel and Howard Birkey, and a nephew, Reuben Lichti. Interment was in Salem cemetery.

Nebraska Signal Geneva, Nebraska Thursday, March 11, 1954
