  • Notes
    • The death occurred very suddenly on Monday, April 5th, of one of York County's best known and highly respected farmers in the person of Redmond Simpson in his 77th year. 'The deceased had been in excellent health right up to the hour of his death. Monday afternoon he had spent in his garden getting it ready for the spring planting. He was digging post holes preparatory to putting up a fence, and it is supposed the unusual exertion affected his heart and caused his death. He was found by his son towards evening where he had fallen at his work.

The late Mr. Simpson was born in Yorkshire, England, and came to Canada with his parents an infant in arms. The family eventually settled in York County on a farm on the 3rd of Whitchurch, and there for over fifty years Mr. Simpson farmed successfully and was held in the highest esteem by the entire neighborhood. The farm was sold last year and he, with his son, Mr. Fred Simpson, came to Newmarket to reside on Gorham Street. His wife predeceased him some years ago. There are seven children living, as follows: Mrs. Shore, Arcadia. Florida; Mrs. Geo. Fierheller, Minden, Ont.: Mrs. W. Williams, Newmarket; Mrs. James Wagg, Goodwood. Ont.; Mrs. McQuade Aurora; Cecil, Guelph, and Fred Newmarket.

The funeral took place from the residence of his son, Mr. Fred Simpson, Gorham Street, on Thursday, April 8th, at 2.30 p.m. Interment in Newmarket Cemetery.
