A Cambridge man died late yesterday afternoon, after the pickup truck he was driving struck an SUV head-on along Franklin Boulevard. Robert Haskell, 44, succumbed to his injuries at hospital, after hitting a Lexus sport utility vehicle carrying two other Cambridge men, in busy rush-hour traffic, at about 4: 45 p.m. The men in the Lexus were also taken to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. Police say rain and poor visibility, may have contributed to the crash. Alcohol is not believed to he a factor. It wasn't known if Haskell was wearing a seatbelt. "All we know is one vehicle was northbound, the other was southbound, and what happened after that, we're still trying to put the pieces together," said Sgt. Fred Gregory The crash, near McClaren Avenue, shut down a stretch of Franklin Boulevard, for about five hours. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the traffic branch of Waterloo regional police.
