Notes |
- R. J. E. Halls
Death came very suddenly to Mr. Ernie Halls, wellknown Woodstock businessman last Friday afternoon. He was in the act of loading his baker truck with bread when he was seized with a heart attack and collapsed death ensuing within a few minutes. He had recently disposed of his business and Saturday was the last day that he intended to remain in possession.
The deceased was born at Hepworth, 39 years ago, but spent his youth in Baden, where his father, the late J. K. Halls, carried on the bakery business. He enlisted during the war with the 110th Perth Battalion and saw much service overseas. Upon his return he went into the bakery business and for the past three years carried on a successful business in Woodstock.
The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Oddfellows and Forester Lodges. He was married to Miss Alberta Bier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bier, of New Hamburg. Besides his sorrowing widow he leaves two daughters and one son to mourn his sudden death. The children are Miss Edna Halls, bookkeeper in the New Hamburg Hydro Electric Office and Hazel and Kenneth, at home. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon. Following the funeral service in Woodstock, the remains were brought here and interment took place in Hostetler's cemetery, Snyder's Road.
