- Roderick Boyd Waller was the son of William Waller and Elizabeth McDonough. His Ontario birth record (#007871) gives his birth date as 28 September 1871, Innisfil, Simcoe County, Ontario. In his military record he gave his birth place as "12th Line, Innisfil" and his birth date as 1875. Roderick was a veteran of World War I. He enlisted in the 157th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force at Barrie on 1 December 1915. He went overseas in October of 1817, then served in France and Belgium as a private (sapper) in the Canadian Railway Troops. He had married Catherine (Kate) Fitzpatrick in 1895 and when he enlisted they had eight children. In the 1921 census of Barrie, the youngest child in the household was a son Morris born about 1917.
