- HENDERSON, ROY HARTLEY was born in Kingsville, on January 16, 1889, a son of Gideon and Helen Henderson. His father was president of the educational Publishing Company, of Toronto, and his mother was a daughter of the Rev. George Hartley, a well known Methodist circuit rider.
Dr. Henderson was educated in Toronto, and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1910. For five years following his graduation he undertook postgraduate studies in eye, ear, and nose and throat in Toronto and New York.
He served overseas from 1916 with the 10th. Canadian Stationary Hospital, and on his return to Canada in 1919. practised at first in Guelph with Dr. Bennetto ;with part time practice in Kitchener. On the death of Dr. Wallace of Kitchener in 1922, he moved here, practising from his Frederick Street residence.
He was a skilled surgeon, and had an extensive practice.
A charter member of the Kitchener Rotary Club, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1974. He had an understanding of mechanical matters, always supervising repairs to his automobiles. He built a stereo sound system that was so extensive it required an addition to his house. In his earlier years he was an outstanding golfer.
He retired in 1966, and died ten years later, on September 23, 1976. He was survived by two daughters and a son, Dr. Hartley Henderson.
