    • DEATH SUMMONS PIONEER OF MACGREGOR

      Thomas R. Vardon, a Resident of 27 Years, Prominent Merchant, Dead.

      Macgregor, Man., Aug. 1. There passed away at Macgregor on Saturday night a pioneer of this town in the person of Thomas Ralph Vardon, son of the late Dr. Vardon, of Galt, Ont. He was a famlliur figure on the streets of this town for 27 years. For 26 years of that time he served the municipality of North Norfolk as secretary-treasurer. He was postmaster for 12 years and always took an active part in public affairs. On coming here 27 years ago he opened a store and post-office and before the C. P. R. placed an agent here he served as express agent. Twenty-six years ago he married Jemima T. Menzie, daughter of the late James Menzie, of Beaver, who survives him, along with one sister, Mrs. J. Huber, of this town. Mr. Vardon was born in Galt, Ont, 54 years ago and came west in 1882. He was a successful land dealer in Portage la Prairie for a time when the boom was at its height. The funeral will take place on Monday from his late residence at 230 o'clock to Macgregor cemetery and will be conducted by the Masonic order.
