Notes |
- Active Elmira Resident Passes in 78th Year; Funeral Services Today
An active life closed Tuesday morning, July 12, when Mr. W. C. Quickfall, a life-long resident of Elmira and district, passed away in his 78th year at his Arthur Street residence. Death followed a lingering illness.
The late Mr. Quickfall was well-known in Elmira and district, having lived actively here and in nearby villages. He was born at Floradale, son of the late Thomas Quickfall and Elizabeth Jane Cook, where he served with his father in the sawmill and gristmill. The latter building stands today.
In 1887 Mr. Quickfall married Elizabeth Smith. After their marriage they went to Glen Allan, where Mr. Quickfall had a sawmill and chipping mill. He continued in business there for 28 years, when the mills were destroyed by fire. Moving to Elmira 23 years ago, Mr. Quickfall established an automobile business, being the first person to purchase an automobile in the district between Kitchener and Listowel.
Municipal affairs also were followed by Mr. Quickfall and for several years he was a member of the Elmira Council. He was Justice of the Peace in Elmira for twelve years.
Just a week previous to his death Mr. Quickfall, with Mrs. Quickfall, reached their fifty-first wedding anniversary on July 5th. Besides Mrs. Quickfall, one daughter, Mrs. W. J. Johnston, Elmira, survives. Another daughter, Mrs. F. Hammond, predeceased Mr. Quickfall about six years ago.
Funeral services for Mr. Quickfall will be held this (Thursday) afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock from his late residence. Rev. G. D. Little, of Toronto, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Elmira Cemetery.
