NEW DUNDEE.-An inquest will be held at New Dundee, November 29, into the death at St. Mary's Hospital, here, Tuesday, of Mervyn Bowman, 59-year-old New Hamburg farmer, Chief County Coroner Dr. Ward Woolner said today.
Bowman was fatally injured shortly before noon, Tuesday, at Bethel Corners, near New Dundee, when his car collided with a truck, allegedly driven by Alvin Egerdee, R.R. 2 Petersburg. Rushed to hospital by ambulance, he died three hours later. According to the coroner, Bowman's chest was crushed and he suffered a fractured skull and fractured ribs.
Despite the fact the car was almost completely demolished Mrs. Bowman, wife of the victim, and his four-year-old grandson, Larry Schmidt of New Dundee, suffered only slight abrasions.
According to police, Bowman was driving west and Egerdee south towards New Dundee when the accident occurred. Egerdee told police the front of Bowman's collided with the side of his truck. Both left the road and broke off "several" telephone poles and fence posts before coming to rest, police said.
Dr. W. S. Foote, New Dundee, who attended the injured at the scene of the accident said Egerdee was not injured.
Born at Port Elgin, Mr. Bowman was a son of Mrs. C. W. Backus, New Dundee, and the late Noah Bowman, New Dundee. He had lived most of his life in New Dundee district. Deceased was secretary-treasurer of Pine Hill public school for twenty-five years and a member of the finance board of New Dundee United Brethren church, of which he was a valued member.
