HOTEL MANAGER

PRESTON--A Preston man died and a Chatham woman was injured near here Sunday as the result of a two-car collision at Highway 24 and Eagle street.
Dead is Wilbur (Wib) Kress, 62, of 250 King street, Preston. He was driver of a car that Galt Police said went through a red flasher light.
Driver of the other car was Rev. Myral, F. Cornelius of 392 King street West, Chatham. He escaped uninjured, but his wife, Ethel, was taken to South Waterloo Hospital, Galt, with face lacerations. She has been released.
Mr. Kress died in South Waterloo three hours after the crash at an intersection which Police: Chief Gordon Bogle of Preston feels is inadequately protected. Highway 24 is just 550 feet east of Preston town line.
Dr. F. W. Richardson, Galt coroner, was on holiday and could not be reached. But indications are an inquest will be held. The Attorney-General's Department in Toronto has ruled that an investigation must be made of all traffic fatalities.
Mr. Kress was manager of the Kress Hotel, an hotel founded by his family but no longer owned by them. An Anglican by faith, he lived here most of his life, as well as in Toronto, St. Thomas and Galt where he once pitched for the Galt Terriers. He was also active in hockey and football.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lorraine Johnston, and a sister, Mrs. G. H. (Mabel) Bingham of Kitchener. The body is at the Stager-Barthel Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery.
